I recently sent an email addressing something that needed to be done later this month. The only problem in my email communication was that I referenced 2017, instead of 2018. That simple mistake led to a humorous conversation with a colleague, joking about how long it might be before we actually started the month of January. Lest you label me a procrastinator (more on that later), let me assure you that 2018 is robustly under way.
Often, church leaders around this time of year and again in the late summer/early fall begin to ask the questions (paraphrased) “How can churches know when to get started?” Due to the complexities and nuisances of each church culture, I cannot fully answer that question for every specific church. Yet, the short answer for the majority of those reading this post I offer this simple counsel.
It is time to get started.
Taking action versus waiting ultimately has less to do with favorable loan rates, casting grand vision, or employing sophisticated communication to get the word out. Please don’t misunderstand me, those are important factors, but starting your project has more to do with child-like trust in the Lord, in His plan, in His timing.
This posture must be accompanied by your willingness to get your feet wet (Joshua 3) as you walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5.7). Again, that doesn’t mean ignore common sense and solid counsel. But if you wait until you think everything needs to be lined up just right, you’re likely to miss the bus.
What is your church planning for 2018? Please contact us, even if you just need to bounce ideas off someone, or need help getting off on the right foot. We would love to hear what God is doing in your church, and if necessary, share with you of how we can be of some assistance.
